Lovely tits! Birdwatching in Denmark.

smukfest_fuglekasser_tommetankerSiden tre av mine medreisende er engelsktalende velger jeg å skrive på deres morsmål denne gangen slik at også de kan gjenoppleve ferden.

First: Birdwatching  is a form of wildlife observation in which the observation of birds as a recreational activity. It can be done with the naked eye, through a visual enhancement device like binoculars and telescopes, or by listening for bird sounds.

Well, we did it without Visual enhancement.

As members of the Official Lummax Tit Club we invited ourselves to the magical woodland north of Skanderborg in Denmark. A yearly fieldtrip where bonding and bird watching are our main focuses. This peaceful Danish location is well known for its beautiful old beech wood. And every year, in late summer, usuallay august, this is the nestingplace for thousands of danisch tits. And to our amusement the tits came in pairs.

smukfest_fin_skog_tommetanker(The typical length of the tit is between 10–16 cm (3.9–6.3 in) in length, when the monotypic genera are added this range is from 9–21 cm (3.5–8.3 in). In weight the family ranges from 5–49 g (0.18–1.73 oz), this contracts to 7–29 g (0.25–1.02 oz) when the three atypical genera are removed. )

smukfest_pissoir_tommetanker“Lovely tits!!”, -said my friend and nodded quietly in a lefty direction. “Yes. That is a ‘one of a kind’ bird”, I replied in a whisper. The bird watching  had begun. 5 comerades , and I, who all shared the interest for birds and tits were at large. Lurking behind the sturdy trees in the forest. In between all the tits we even saw some wood. Hardened as the tits flew by. In accordance with what our Danish fellow tit-watchers said this was an amazing happening. We all wanted to hold a tit or two, but they where very reluctant. That was until my friend met a danish bird-wather with a nice pair of tits. “Oh, lovely tits”, he said. She replied firmly; “They became this way after the mating season.” “Lovely!”, my friend answered and gently felt the warmth of the damp forest. With our heads full of undelitable images of tits in every shapes and size we moved backwards out of the beech forest.

We will be back next year for more feathering experienses as we are always in the pursuit of a previously located rare bird. Hopefully a friendly one.
